Elvis Presley, 1969
This one is a little different take on the typical portrait. Normally, you wouldn’t want your subject to be covering his face with his hands—however, I found this image to be compelling. The eyes are engaging and full of laughter even without seeing the rest of his face. The photo was taken during his post-concert press conference after his triumphant return to live performing in 1969. Las Vegas was the site of this resurrection and also the site of his slow descent into self-destruction and ultimate demise. But for now, as this photo is snapped, he is at the height of his game and the future is looking brighter.
